I have a bone to pick with you, "Professional" Art World.
You and your Andy Warhols and your Francis Bacons.
You with your "Bad Paintings", and your "Post Painterly Abstraction".
You and Robert Rauschenberg's "Monogram" and Donald Judd's "Untitled".
You. Yes, you.
We need to talk.
I'll get to the point.
You need to start appreciating the current generation's masterpieces.
And by our generation's masterpieces, I mean "Chase" by Hamsterfly, and such elegant works like "FFX: Tidus and Yuna Redesign" by Risachantag
Yes, you know exactly what I mean.
You need to stop overlooking FanArt.
Art no longer thrives in Pop Art or Neo-Dadaism.
Those are the movements of the past. You've been left behind.
And pretending that 'Fan Made Art' is solely restricted to 3-year-olds who watched a dumb TV show one too many times, is unacceptable.
And not just fanart--fanfiction and online videos are not just done by teenaged punks with too much time on their hands.
You need to wake up.
This is an age of Fanfiction, of Fanart, Webcomics, Webisodes, Viral Videos, Vlogs, and more.
This revolution is happening, and no matter how long you choose to ignore it, we, the artists of today and tomorrow, demand to be taken seriously.
Stop acting like you're still the mainstream, because that was over twenty years ago.
The general public is tired of Colourfield Paintings and Pop Art.
We don't want pictures in Art Galleries to be of erased paintings, we want pictures of Samus.
We don't want to read about super heroes, we want Cucumber Quest.
We don't want music of nothing, we want Vocaloid.
We don't want our movies to star Living Barbie Dolls, we want Smosh.
Look up from your canvas.
And look at the world around you.
We are the internet and we refuse to be ignored.

Whew! Just needed to get that rant out there.
Now I should really get back to studying for my Art History Exam...

No, I didn't just post this because I feel bad for not posting anything recently, what are you talking about?

Applause! Applause! Bravo!

I have been thinking much the same for a long time.
It seems wherever I turn, galleries are still filled with those same styles of old-fashioned art.
I shouldn't mind that this is the style that people want, but it makes me frustrated to know that I would much rather buy and sell art of today's style (like the majority of art here on dA, and the beautiful pieces you mentioned), and have them on my wall, than what's in the old-fashioned galleries.

Why won't those people understand that, and let the new art have a chance? Maybe they just don't know about the amazing styles of art that has been emerging for quite some time now. Maybe they are ignorant? Or maybe they refuse to let go of the old ways?

I totally agree. A revolution is needed.
