Heh heh... Niiiccccee... by Cherry-sama Heh heh... Niiiccccee... by Cherry-sama
'ello again.
This particular comic was based on the novel the Ozma of Oz.
And the terribly tacky colours, are based on the edition of the book I have: [link] *hackcoughhorriblequalityhackcough*
I personally did not like the book.
I do not recommend it under any circumstances unless your sister has a table saw accident, and while everyone else is panaicing, you stay surprisingly calm, and notice an old looking book by the couch.

So this is what you need to know in order to get this comic:
:bulletred:Dorthy and her little pet hen (who's named Bill, but Dorthy insists that her name be changed to Billina) get kidnapped
:bulletred:Dorthy is locked up, but the Ozma was introduced, and saved her Mary-Sue butt
:bulletred:while Dorthy was kidnapped, Billina was put in the hen house, to later be eaten
:bulletred:so Dorthy and company go to retrieve Billina but she had picked a fight with the rooster and Dorthy noted Billina's gored state
:bulletred:the first two frames happen, but I seriously wished that frame three happened
:bulletred:Dorthy scolds Billina on not being ladylike like a proper lady...

DORTHY IS SUCH A MARY-SUE!!!
:spidey:
IT ANNOYED THE CRAP OUTTA ME!!!
Like, in the first chapter, Dorthy goes out in the middle of a storm, while out at sea, in the middle of the night, and was blown overboard.
And she wasn't scared at ALL; even though she is a little girl!
GAH!

Surprisingly, my favourite character was the Ozma herself.
Must be something about her backstory.
However, I didn't think she was manly enough, considering that she was a boy for a number of years.
So, I have tweeked the Ozma in mah mind
Ozma before tweeking:
-ladylike
-proper ruler for Oz
-wise and caring
-lived as a boy for a few years, but still is a "respectful" (respectful as in a ladylike sense) woman
-is, liek, BFF with Dorthy :iconhurrplz:
Ozma with tweeking:
-smart and wise
-knows her table manners, however can still be extremely ill-mannered if caught off guard
-acts like a lady due to extensive amounts of etiquette courses after becoming female again, however, when emotionally paniced, irritated or extremely depressed, she acts like a boy
-still finds burps and farts amusing, and laughs out loud when they happen
-likes Dorthy well enough, but finds some her logic...strange...

Dorothy can't be a marysue because she is the main character. If anything, it's Ozma who is the marysue. Technically, marysue can't even be applied to canon characters anyway. A marysue is a fan made character that is inserted into an existing story who is too perfect and draws all the attention to herself. The term marysue is too often misused this way.

Of course Mary-Sues can exist as canon characters. They're just not often labeled as such. They're often called weak characters, flat characters, static characters, boring characters, etc.

What mostly defines a Mary-Sue are the lack of flaws in their character and how well they get along with every other character in the story. Sometimes a Mary-sue will be loved by all characters except one. And that one character usually has a reason for hating the Sue that is unoriginal or cliched.

Examples of Static/Flat/Boring Characters (a.k.a. Mary-Sues) in literature:
-Bella Swan from Twilight
-Orihime from Bleach
-and, as mentioned above, Dorothy from the Ozma of Oz

I think it's true to say that canon-characters can't be Mary-Sues. And unless you coined the term Mary-Sue and wrote the rules on it, I don't really think you're in a position to be telling other people if they're wrong or right calling characters Mary-Sues.

Ozma is mentioned just as often as being loved by everyone as well. Maybe Dorothy could be classified as a marysue, but it isn't right to call her one and not say Ozma is one as well. Just saying.

Well, I suppose that was the original definition of a Mary-sue, however I have seen cases where people have created Mary-sue's that are in original stories, and are the main character.
Heck, I've had problems with Mary-sue's in the stories I've been creating.
However, you are correct in that the majority of Mary-sues do appear in fanfiction.
And, I guess the Ozma is a bit of a Mary-sue in the story, but I like giving her personality so that she becomes a lot more lovable.
:)

And if you'd like to read up more about the definition of a Mary-sue, here is the wikipedia article about them: [link]
